Student tutoring
WHAT IS TUTORING AT ALL?
The easiest way to answer this question is as follows: tutoring is organized help for students. With tutoring, we want to facilitate the integration of students into the university environment and advise them in their studies, as well as in solving any problems they may be facing.
Tutoring means a process of supporting education, in which the tutor, who is an expert with experience in a certain field, transfers his competences, experience and acquaintances to the tutors.
THE PURPOSE OF THE TUTORING SYSTEM?
The purpose of the tutoring system is:
- provide comprehensive support to the student in and during studies;
- increase students’ transition to the upper year;
- guide students in designing the optional part of the course;
- to encourage students to acquire additional extracurricular knowledge and to participate in extracurricular activities;
- to encourage students to international exchanges, connecting with foreign students and working in a foreign academic environment;
- provide assistance to students with special needs;
- provide assistance to foreign students;
- to advise students on the possible continuation of their studies or career paths after completing their studies.
FORMS OF STUDENT TUTORING?
The forms of student tutoring carried out by members of the New University are, in particular, introductory tutoring, subject tutoring, tutoring for foreign students and tutoring for students with special needs. The listed forms of student tutoring differ from each other depending on the criteria for selecting tutors, the way of working and the target population of students receiving tutoring assistance. Below are the basic elements of each form of student tutoring.
INTRODUCTORY TUTORING
Introductory student tutoring is intended for first-year students who have entered a new study environment. Induction tutors help new students mainly by providing important information related to the study program, they present extracurricular activities and the rooms of individual members of the New University. In the event that the student’s problem is very demanding and requires individual professional help, the student tutor tries to direct the student to appropriate professional help.
In the academic year 2022/2023, the introductory tutor was not named.
SUBJECT TUTORING
Subject tutoring is intended to provide assistance in understanding the study material of each compulsory subject of the study program. Several subject tutors may be appointed for an individual subject in order to distribute the subject content more appropriately.
The student subject tutor can be a senior year student who has the status of a member student and an above-average grade in the course. Subject tutors offer students additional help in understanding and mastering the study material of individual subjects.
