RESPONSIBILITY TO PROTECT IN THEORY AND PRACTICE CONFERENCE

Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana (Conference Chair: Dr Vasilka Sancin) is organizing a two day
international event entitled Responsibility to Protect in Theory and Practice Conference on April 11-
12, 2013. The aim is to provide an opportunity for scholars and practitioners from a range of
disciplines (legal, political science, military and security studies…) to engage in an interdisciplinary
academic debate on the concept of Responsibility to Protect (R2P).
More than 90 internationally renowned experts in the field and poster presenters from around the
world will present their opinions, thoughts and research work on the issue. The keynote address will
be delivered by Dr Edward Luck, former Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
on Responsibility to Protect and Dean of Joan B. Kroc School of Peace Studies at the University of
San Diego at the gala conference dinner held in Grand Hotel Union Executive.
The organizers of the conference will in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the
Republic of Slovenia prepare a special panel of the Regional R2P Focal Points, who will a day before
(April 10, 2013) participate at the regional meeting.
